BENZIPOX Mastic 88

Two Pack High Build Surface Tolerant Epoxy Mastic

BENZIPOX MASTIC 88 is a two pack high build surface tolerant epoxy mastic with excellent abrasion and chemical resistance for use on steel surfaces under non-immersion service. As a multi-purpose mastic with high volume of solids, it provides a high build impervious barrier coating that gives excellent adhesion and surface wetting properties over a wire brushed steel surface where abrasive blasting is impossible. It can be overcoated with most of the high performance coatings or as a self-priming high build topcoat.

General Properties: Outstanding tolerance to manually prepared surfaces; Excellent corrosion resistance through a combination of anti-corrosion pigments and rust penetrants; High tolerance where application over conventional coating system such as aged alkyd system; Withstands continuous dry heat up to 100°C; Slight chalking under continuous exposure to sunlight but without detriment to performance characteristic other than slight reduction in color/gloss.

Surface Preparation:

Ferrous Metal Surface
For optimum performance, steel surface shall be abrasively blasted in accordance to Swedish Standard Sa 2.5. If abrasive blasting is impossible, mechanical cleaning to St 3 is essential. If oxidation occurred on the blasted steel before application of paint, it is necessary to reblast the steel. The surface must be dry and free from any abrasive residues, dirt, grease and other contaminants prior to painting.

Non-Ferrous Metal Surface
For new surface, thorough solvent degreasing to SSPC-SP1 is necessary. For old surface, it must be abraded to remove corrosion deposits. All surfaces must be dry and clean prior to painting.

Concrete Floor Surface
Newly laid concrete surface must be allowed to cure for at least 28 days, ensure the surface is below 16% moisture content as measured by protimeter and alkalinity below PH9 (It is highly recommended to have a layer of water-proof membrane underneath the concrete). If alkalinity is high, neutralize the surface by etching with 5% Sulphuric Acid solution and rinsed thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry completely prior to painting.

Safety, Health & Environment

FLAMMABLE. During painting, make sure no source of ignition at surrounding and no smoking. When not in use, store paint in cool and shaded place and do not directly expose to sunlight. Allow proper ventilation and wear mask during painting. Do not breathe vapour or spray. Keep doors and windows open during application and drying. It is advisable to wear eye protector while applying. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical treatment. To remove splashes of paint from skin, use suitable cleanser or soap and water. Do not dispose paint into drains or watercourses. Refer to MCI Paint Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for further details.
