BENZIPOX Coal Tar Epoxy

Two Pack High Build Coal Tar Epoxy

BENZIPOX COAL TAR EPOXY is a two pack high build coal tar epoxy coating designed for use as a high build protective system on both steel and concrete surfaces. It can be applied up to 200 microns or even thicker in one coat, thus eliminating potential intercoat adhesion problem. It is intended for immersion and non-immersion services which require excellent protection against fresh and salt water, abrasion and splashes of corrosive chemicals. It is recommended to be used in aggressive environment including harbor shore installation, marine structure, jetty piles, ship bottom, sewage treatment plant, ballast tank, chemical plant and etc.

Surface Preparation:

Ferrous Metal Surface
For optimum performance, steel surface shall be abrasively blasted in accordance to Swedish Standard Sa 2.5. If abrasive blasting is impossible, mechanical cleaning to St 3 is essential. If oxidation occurred on the blasted steel before application of paint, it is necessary to reblast the steel. The surface must be dry and free from any abrasive residues, dirt, grease and other contaminants prior to painting.

Concrete Surface
Newly laid concrete surface must be allowed to cure for at least 28 days, ensure the surface is below 16% moisture content as measured by protimeter and alkalinity below PH9. If alkalinity is high, neutralize the surface by etching with 5% Sulphuric Acid solution and rinsed thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry completely prior to painting.

Safety, Health & Environment

FLAMMABLE. During painting, make sure no source of ignition at surrounding and no smoking. When not in use, store paint in cool and shaded place and do not directly expose to sunlight. Allow proper ventilation and wear mask during painting. Do not breathe vapour or spray. Keep doors and windows open during application and drying. It is advisable to wear eye protector while applying. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical treatment. To remove splashes of paint from skin, use suitable cleanser or soap and water. Do not dispose paint into drains or watercourses. Refer to MCI Paint Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for further details.
